Mission 1 - Battle Report

Battle Report for Mission 1
by Commander Hedrack

Mission 1
objective: Varras must reach the exit zone

Lieutenant Varras dragged himself from the shattered cockpit of the Dauntless and peered across the flaming wreckage strewn across the scarred landscape.  He was alive, the precious adamantium canister of Ultramarines gene-seed had survived the impack and that was all that mattered.
His training told him to seek higher ground, find a vantage point from which to broadcast a vox signal and call for help.  As he dropped to the ground he realised he was not alone, sighting hideous alien creatures little more than bulbous sacks of ichor, trailing sickly tendrils behind them, drift over the remains of the lander.  With horror, he realised they were hunting him...

-Turn 1-

> Believeing the shortest path is a direct path Varras moves forward, hoping to out distance himself from the hideous creatures in the distance.

>> While these Tyranids were mindless creatures who survived purely on instinct.  Their instinct was telling them now to hunt Varras, so off they went, one coming close to reaching him already.

-Turn 2-

> Varas sees the creaturing barreling down on him and quickens his pace.  He moves forward, getting ever closer to higher ground so that he may call for help, but is he moving quickly enough?

>> The tyranids are gaining in numbers, already another spore mine has entered the fray.  Fortunately for Varras the creatures movements are sporadic, just as the spore mine from the west was upon Varras it switched directions, heading back towards the wreckage from wince it climbed out of.  Varras can't believe his luck, but doesn't have time to question it.

-Turn 3-

>  Varras continues his run, always moving forward, but being forced a bit to the west as more spore mines continue to to swarm the area.  He sees his goal in the distance, but will he make it there in time?

>>  As the spore mines continue to grow in numbers they get closer to Varras.  If the creatures could some how work as one then Varras wouldn't have stood a chance making it out of here alive, but the spore mines continue to move sporadicly, only by chance does it seem some get close to Varras.

-Turn 4-

> so close!  Varras is almost there, if he can just reach the hill then he can send out a signal for help.  One of the spore mines is almost upon him though!

>> The spore mines continue to move about the land sporadicly.  Crawling over wreckage, others heading the the ship instead of Varras himself.  One spore mine though is so close that it appears they may end up stopping Varras yet!

-Turn 5-

Victory!  With the spore mine so close Varras is forced to take out his blaster and fire.  He had been hoping to avoid conflict so as not to cause more noise than necessary and risking more of these creatures would head to the crash site.  Fortunately for Varras his armor proctected him from the ensuing explosion from destroing the spore mine.  With no other spore mine nearby Varras makes his way to the hill to call for help!
