More on the way...

Just wanted to show another great deal I found. It is the collector's edition of the 4th edition Rulebook! How much you say? Well, I got it for less than 10 bucks. Sweet deal!

Nothing like finding the best for cheap!!

I also found a diamond in the rough... thanks to friend of a friend of a friend...you get the idea!
It is the 3rd edition starter set. The best thing other being dirt cheap($15), it is still new in the shrink wrap! So I get to be the first to start this awesome setup!

The picture was sent to my phone before it got mailed off today.
enjoy...

Battle Reports coming soon...

Well, another Warhammer 40k gaming session this weekend.  Two missions were accomplished, one going my way, one to Joey.  We will be working on battle reports and getting those posted this week.  We are learning a ton playing, and we hope to get painting AND playing done in the coming week!

Game on...

We played another two missions today. We had a few issues on the rules and how they were interpreted but we pressed on and had a great time!! Ethan might have won a mission but we will play it again knowing what we know now and we will see who gets the last laugh!!

We cant wait to finish the rest of the missions and move on to the next box set. We also might have another player to add to this band of brothers!

Game on!!

More to read...

Just got another deal. I managed to get the 4th edition 40K rulebook for 5 bucks. It had a bonus. A space marines codex, a current one at that. Not a bad find. Too bad I already had the codex but it is nice to have some extras... just in case! ;)

Ethan got a few new things too...
Where are the pictures?
Coming soon.

Along for the ride...

These battle reports turned out real good. Big thanks to Ethan for getting these posted and his fiancée for the support. Also, big thanks to my wonderful wife for all her support and taking all the photos of the missions. Great job everyone.

I also found this link. It is the same site as the one for the 40K wiki but for Warhammer Fantasy.

Mission 2 - Battle Report

**************************** For Official Use Only ***********************************
                             - THE EMPEROR PROTECTS -

Battle Report for Mission 2
by Commander Tyranus

Mission 2
objective: keep Varras alive and destroy the infestation markers. No one is allowed to shoot, only the Flamer.

board setup

Lt Varras was still stranded and Brother-Sergeant Octavian and the Ultramarines were dropped in to rescue Varras and the gene-seed.

 First Turn goes to Ultramarines

I decided to get Varras out of range of the spore mine directly in from of him. Varras was not allowed to shoot so getting him to the Ultramarines was priority.

With Varras safely out of range from nearby spore mines, the Ultramarines advanced torward Varras. The Tyranids were moving to intercept.

Varras is now safe with the Ultramarines. The Flamer was in range of the first Infestation marker and two spore mines. The marker and one mine became incenerated. However, the spor mine that detonated, destroyed the surviving spore mine. Off to the next target.

Had the Flamer destroy the advancing spore mine. Now moving the squad to the next marker

The Tyranids are moving torwards the squad. Slowly but surely.

The Ultramarines are in range of the next marker. The Flamer set his sights and the marker is under attack!

The Tyranid overlord is not pleased with the outcome!

With the squad now making their way to the final marker, the spore mines make their move and it is close.

DEFEAT!!!

With the squad safe out of range from nearby spore mines, the flamer setups his shot and prepares for the final target! Rolled a five... Victory!!!

FLAWLESS VICTORY... FATALITY!!!!!

Mission 1 - Battle Report

Battle Report for Mission 1
by Commander Hedrack

Mission 1
objective: Varras must reach the exit zone

Lieutenant Varras dragged himself from the shattered cockpit of the Dauntless and peered across the flaming wreckage strewn across the scarred landscape.  He was alive, the precious adamantium canister of Ultramarines gene-seed had survived the impack and that was all that mattered.
His training told him to seek higher ground, find a vantage point from which to broadcast a vox signal and call for help.  As he dropped to the ground he realised he was not alone, sighting hideous alien creatures little more than bulbous sacks of ichor, trailing sickly tendrils behind them, drift over the remains of the lander.  With horror, he realised they were hunting him...

-Turn 1-

> Believeing the shortest path is a direct path Varras moves forward, hoping to out distance himself from the hideous creatures in the distance.

>> While these Tyranids were mindless creatures who survived purely on instinct.  Their instinct was telling them now to hunt Varras, so off they went, one coming close to reaching him already.

-Turn 2-

> Varas sees the creaturing barreling down on him and quickens his pace.  He moves forward, getting ever closer to higher ground so that he may call for help, but is he moving quickly enough?

>> The tyranids are gaining in numbers, already another spore mine has entered the fray.  Fortunately for Varras the creatures movements are sporadic, just as the spore mine from the west was upon Varras it switched directions, heading back towards the wreckage from wince it climbed out of.  Varras can't believe his luck, but doesn't have time to question it.

-Turn 3-

>  Varras continues his run, always moving forward, but being forced a bit to the west as more spore mines continue to to swarm the area.  He sees his goal in the distance, but will he make it there in time?

>>  As the spore mines continue to grow in numbers they get closer to Varras.  If the creatures could some how work as one then Varras wouldn't have stood a chance making it out of here alive, but the spore mines continue to move sporadicly, only by chance does it seem some get close to Varras.

-Turn 4-

> so close!  Varras is almost there, if he can just reach the hill then he can send out a signal for help.  One of the spore mines is almost upon him though!

>> The spore mines continue to move about the land sporadicly.  Crawling over wreckage, others heading the the ship instead of Varras himself.  One spore mine though is so close that it appears they may end up stopping Varras yet!

-Turn 5-

Victory!  With the spore mine so close Varras is forced to take out his blaster and fire.  He had been hoping to avoid conflict so as not to cause more noise than necessary and risking more of these creatures would head to the crash site.  Fortunately for Varras his armor proctected him from the ensuing explosion from destroing the spore mine.  With no other spore mine nearby Varras makes his way to the hill to call for help!

Battle Reports coming....

So, Joey sent me all the pictures and I have gone through them to get the ones relating to Mission One.  It has been rather busy today so I haven't been able to actually write out the battle report, but that will be up within the next day.  Joey will wait to post his after I posted mine so that we can keep the reports in order, me doing Mission One and him doing Mission Two.

Mission Accomplished....

What a great night.  Joey and I finally had a chance to actually play Warhammer 40k, and it was better than expected!  We are starting with the Battle for Macragge starter set missions.  This is the starter set that contains Space Marines and Tyranids.  We chose this one because I still have yet to completely put together the Assault on Black Reach set, but that will be done next weekend.

We got through the first two missions, which I shamefully admit I lost.  I played as the Tyranids and having very little control over how my Spores move is quite annoying!  We have taken plenty of pictures and tomorrow we will post our battle reports.  I will be doing Mission 1 and Joey will be doing Mission 2, so stay tuned!

Sidenote...

I was wondering about something. After we get playing a few and decide to get some stories going, I wanted to try this. To add to the storyline, I wanted to see how the Warhammer 40K expansion: Planetary Empires would fit.
It would be like a story of repelling an invasion of your planet, or the story of taking back your planet. Each tile would represent a battlescape and you must get all or most of the tiles to win.

Too many details to explain now but if it works, we can hash those out when we get them.

Just an idea...

The plan....

As you can see Joey has created a great spot for us to continue our Warhammer 40k journey.  As you know the journey had slowed down in recent week, but we are starting to pick things up.  With a place for us established in Joeys garage, we have devised a plan so that we ensure we can create at least weekly updates to our blog.

We have decided that we will play a game every two weeks, and the weeks we don't play will be dedicated to painting.  This will let us update our blog with battles we have waged as well as the progress we make on painting our armies.  So long as things go according to plan our blog should be updated at least every Sunday with our weekly progress.

Reference...

Here is a current picture of my Warhammer literature and stuff.
It is nice to look at all on its own shelf instead of stacks on the carpet in my office!!

Information is power.

Prepare for war...

It is all done!!!!

I finally got my garage into a nice play space. I even broke out the play mat on the table and we are ready to get started. Now I need to know when. At least I can brush up on the rules so there is more play time!

Here it is...
