Out of Gas...

Well, I have not done anything for months now. Not since my last posting anyways. I have not played any WH games either. Heck, I even tried some D&D but times are just not lining up. Everyone is too busy and it is so hard to try right now. If you all want to do something, I'm game, if not, oh well.

I am just gonna work on my car....

More to come... hopefully soon!!!

Then there was two...

I finished another one today. At this rate, I might have an army by Christmas. Sarcasm aside, I am really having a great time doing this and look forward to getting better.

Again, sorry for the crappy pics. What do you expect from a three year old cell phone...

Enjoy!

One down...

I got the white dwarf 313 that lets me know how to use Captain Draco. Sweet! Took a while since I had to get it from England. well worth the wait!

I am on a business trip and finally decided to start painting.
I got one finished... well almost, I just need to get the transfers on the shoulders when I get home and it will be done.

Sorry about the crappy pics, only had my cell phone. I forgot my good camera.
I hope you get the idea at least...

Heavy Metal...

I found out a while back that Games Workshop was replacing the metal figures with resin models. Of course, I prefer metal, just something about them!
So, I had to step up the search of the speciific pieces for my Black Templar army.
After weeks of searching, I am very pleased to let everyone know I have completed my collection.
I managed to complete, in metal, my Black Templar leadership with a bonus elite set.

Black Templars High Marshal Helbrecht
Black Templars Chaplain Grimaldus & Retinue
The Emperor's Champion
Black Templars Sword Brethren Squad

Last not certinaly not least...
Black Templars Captain. Yes...Castellan Draco! Now I have to find White Dwarf Issue 313 so I can know how to use him!

As usual, I scoured the inter-webs for the best deal and now here they are. All mine and for very cheap!!!

Enjoy the photo...

Finally another one...

I have stopped by the new Games Workshop every Saturday since I got back from Orlando a few weeks ago. This place is awesome. The manager there is really cool and we talked for a long time about everything. He is into Black Templars as well and we will be sharing tips and info on our armies. I am even going back again today.
I am going to try to make a stop by there every Saturday. We will see what happens!

The only one...

I was on a buisness trip in Florida and decided to check to see if there would be a Games Workshop store there. I was going to be in Orlando and what do you know, there is one there.

Happens to be the only one in the whole state of Florida. Lucky me!

Come to find out, there is one opening up back home too! The stars have aligned...

Change of plans...

It is halfway into the month and nothing has been done. Still as it was. Well, lots of things are going on at home so that will come first. I hope to make a little head way into my new room but we will see...

Even more stuff to do...

Well, it is now July and I still dont have my office completed into the super awesome Warhammer gaming room. Just too much awesomeness to handle at once. Got to take it in little by little...

I know that Ethan is going to settle on doing the Orks for his first army. Not a bad choice. All he needs is a codex and a battle force to beef up what he has from the starter set he has. I will get him the codex and he will give me his space marines from said starter set. I will have a full army with those and it will be glorious!

We will try to paint some more this weekend. More to come...

Lot of work ahead...

I opened up my new space marine battleforce and found something about it that was a bit surprising. They need to be glued together.
Apparently, only the starter sets for 4th and 5th editions are the snap together. Not surprising since they are made to be put together and played quickly.
Everything else is glued. Looks like I will have lots of work ahead of me to get a good army together to play with. I want to play more but I would like to have something to show for my effort. That, and it will look cool already painted too!

Happy Father's Day...

What a great Father's Day. Well... my new game room is not finished. I still have to find where to put all the stuff so I can use the game tables. It will get done. Right now we are focusing on painting to not only practice our artist skills, but to have cool looking armies when we go to the local game store to play other fellow Warhammer enthusiasts!

I got some awesome gifts for Father's Day and cant wait to get started...

New Challange...

Ethan and I decided to finish more of our 40K projects yesterday. He finished assembling his models from the Assault on Black Reach set. I began working on my 3rd Edition set. (it doesn't have a cool title like the 4th and 5th ed sets)
Well, come to find out that I would have to glue ALL my pieces together to get them started. Not like the 4th/5th ed sets where they snap into place with the option of glue. So this one might take a while, or it may go the back burner since this will take LOTS of time to assemble and paint and setup properly. But it will be worth it.
Just not now... :)

Different scenery...

Well, it is hot outside and of course it make my garage even hotter! The A/C unit I have for it cant keep up and it is time to relocate the arena!
So I am going to redo my whole office for the 40K experience. I just started so be on the look out for updates!
Oh man, I cant wait till this new project is done!!!

Too many things...

It has been a while since the last post. I got a bunch of stuff but there are some things going on and the project is temporary on hold. We hope to be back up soon but it will take time, once things are worked out. I will keep things moving until we are back up to speed.

So here it is. My new finds.
First, the entire 2009 back issues of White Dwarf, real cheap...

Second, a book store find of the Daemonhunters (Grey Knights) codex...

Last but not least... a unusual find... an Eye of Terror stap map poster...
I cant wait to get this framed!

Facebook...

I decided to share the blog on facebook. Now that more friends are able to read this blog, they too can follow the missions, stories, other events Ethan and I will see in the coming future. I even got a few of them curious about the game.

We will see what comes of it...

Read some more...

I was going through my Warhammer library and I am just amazed by each codex I read. I sometimes find myself just reading them like mini novels since the history and stories in them are fascinating! I am learning so much. I would like to play more and get some painting/assembling done too!!
More soon...

It came...

WOW!! It finally got here. My 3rd edition starter set of Warhammer 40K has arrived. I am so excited.
I actually let it sit there for a while to enjoy the condition it was in. New and unopened!!!

Well... time to crack it open and see the wonderful goodies inside!
Before...
After...

Yay me!!

More on the way...

Just wanted to show another great deal I found. It is the collector's edition of the 4th edition Rulebook! How much you say? Well, I got it for less than 10 bucks. Sweet deal!

Nothing like finding the best for cheap!!

I also found a diamond in the rough... thanks to friend of a friend of a friend...you get the idea!
It is the 3rd edition starter set. The best thing other being dirt cheap($15), it is still new in the shrink wrap! So I get to be the first to start this awesome setup!

The picture was sent to my phone before it got mailed off today.
enjoy...

Battle Reports coming soon...

Well, another Warhammer 40k gaming session this weekend.  Two missions were accomplished, one going my way, one to Joey.  We will be working on battle reports and getting those posted this week.  We are learning a ton playing, and we hope to get painting AND playing done in the coming week!

Saturday, April 23, 2011

Game on...

We played another two missions today. We had a few issues on the rules and how they were interpreted but we pressed on and had a great time!! Ethan might have won a mission but we will play it again knowing what we know now and we will see who gets the last laugh!!

We cant wait to finish the rest of the missions and move on to the next box set. We also might have another player to add to this band of brothers!

Game on!!

More to read...

Just got another deal. I managed to get the 4th edition 40K rulebook for 5 bucks. It had a bonus. A space marines codex, a current one at that. Not a bad find. Too bad I already had the codex but it is nice to have some extras... just in case! ;)

Ethan got a few new things too...
Where are the pictures?
Coming soon.

Along for the ride...

These battle reports turned out real good. Big thanks to Ethan for getting these posted and his fiancée for the support. Also, big thanks to my wonderful wife for all her support and taking all the photos of the missions. Great job everyone.

I also found this link. It is the same site as the one for the 40K wiki but for Warhammer Fantasy.

Mission 2 - Battle Report

**************************** For Official Use Only ***********************************
                             - THE EMPEROR PROTECTS -

Battle Report for Mission 2
by Commander Tyranus

Mission 2
objective: keep Varras alive and destroy the infestation markers. No one is allowed to shoot, only the Flamer.

board setup

Lt Varras was still stranded and Brother-Sergeant Octavian and the Ultramarines were dropped in to rescue Varras and the gene-seed.

 First Turn goes to Ultramarines

I decided to get Varras out of range of the spore mine directly in from of him. Varras was not allowed to shoot so getting him to the Ultramarines was priority.

With Varras safely out of range from nearby spore mines, the Ultramarines advanced torward Varras. The Tyranids were moving to intercept.

Varras is now safe with the Ultramarines. The Flamer was in range of the first Infestation marker and two spore mines. The marker and one mine became incenerated. However, the spor mine that detonated, destroyed the surviving spore mine. Off to the next target.

Had the Flamer destroy the advancing spore mine. Now moving the squad to the next marker

The Tyranids are moving torwards the squad. Slowly but surely.

The Ultramarines are in range of the next marker. The Flamer set his sights and the marker is under attack!

The Tyranid overlord is not pleased with the outcome!

With the squad now making their way to the final marker, the spore mines make their move and it is close.

DEFEAT!!!

With the squad safe out of range from nearby spore mines, the flamer setups his shot and prepares for the final target! Rolled a five... Victory!!!

FLAWLESS VICTORY... FATALITY!!!!!

Mission 1 - Battle Report

Battle Report for Mission 1
by Commander Hedrack

Mission 1
objective: Varras must reach the exit zone

Lieutenant Varras dragged himself from the shattered cockpit of the Dauntless and peered across the flaming wreckage strewn across the scarred landscape.  He was alive, the precious adamantium canister of Ultramarines gene-seed had survived the impack and that was all that mattered.
His training told him to seek higher ground, find a vantage point from which to broadcast a vox signal and call for help.  As he dropped to the ground he realised he was not alone, sighting hideous alien creatures little more than bulbous sacks of ichor, trailing sickly tendrils behind them, drift over the remains of the lander.  With horror, he realised they were hunting him...

-Turn 1-

> Believeing the shortest path is a direct path Varras moves forward, hoping to out distance himself from the hideous creatures in the distance.

>> While these Tyranids were mindless creatures who survived purely on instinct.  Their instinct was telling them now to hunt Varras, so off they went, one coming close to reaching him already.

-Turn 2-

> Varas sees the creaturing barreling down on him and quickens his pace.  He moves forward, getting ever closer to higher ground so that he may call for help, but is he moving quickly enough?

>> The tyranids are gaining in numbers, already another spore mine has entered the fray.  Fortunately for Varras the creatures movements are sporadic, just as the spore mine from the west was upon Varras it switched directions, heading back towards the wreckage from wince it climbed out of.  Varras can't believe his luck, but doesn't have time to question it.

-Turn 3-

>  Varras continues his run, always moving forward, but being forced a bit to the west as more spore mines continue to to swarm the area.  He sees his goal in the distance, but will he make it there in time?

>>  As the spore mines continue to grow in numbers they get closer to Varras.  If the creatures could some how work as one then Varras wouldn't have stood a chance making it out of here alive, but the spore mines continue to move sporadicly, only by chance does it seem some get close to Varras.

-Turn 4-

> so close!  Varras is almost there, if he can just reach the hill then he can send out a signal for help.  One of the spore mines is almost upon him though!

>> The spore mines continue to move about the land sporadicly.  Crawling over wreckage, others heading the the ship instead of Varras himself.  One spore mine though is so close that it appears they may end up stopping Varras yet!

-Turn 5-

Victory!  With the spore mine so close Varras is forced to take out his blaster and fire.  He had been hoping to avoid conflict so as not to cause more noise than necessary and risking more of these creatures would head to the crash site.  Fortunately for Varras his armor proctected him from the ensuing explosion from destroing the spore mine.  With no other spore mine nearby Varras makes his way to the hill to call for help!

Whats going on!?!?

Battle Reports coming....

So, Joey sent me all the pictures and I have gone through them to get the ones relating to Mission One.  It has been rather busy today so I haven't been able to actually write out the battle report, but that will be up within the next day.  Joey will wait to post his after I posted mine so that we can keep the reports in order, me doing Mission One and him doing Mission Two.

Mission Accomplished....

What a great night.  Joey and I finally had a chance to actually play Warhammer 40k, and it was better than expected!  We are starting with the Battle for Macragge starter set missions.  This is the starter set that contains Space Marines and Tyranids.  We chose this one because I still have yet to completely put together the Assault on Black Reach set, but that will be done next weekend.

We got through the first two missions, which I shamefully admit I lost.  I played as the Tyranids and having very little control over how my Spores move is quite annoying!  We have taken plenty of pictures and tomorrow we will post our battle reports.  I will be doing Mission 1 and Joey will be doing Mission 2, so stay tuned!

Sidenote...

I was wondering about something. After we get playing a few and decide to get some stories going, I wanted to try this. To add to the storyline, I wanted to see how the Warhammer 40K expansion: Planetary Empires would fit.
It would be like a story of repelling an invasion of your planet, or the story of taking back your planet. Each tile would represent a battlescape and you must get all or most of the tiles to win.

Too many details to explain now but if it works, we can hash those out when we get them.

Just an idea...

The plan....

As you can see Joey has created a great spot for us to continue our Warhammer 40k journey.  As you know the journey had slowed down in recent week, but we are starting to pick things up.  With a place for us established in Joeys garage, we have devised a plan so that we ensure we can create at least weekly updates to our blog.

We have decided that we will play a game every two weeks, and the weeks we don't play will be dedicated to painting.  This will let us update our blog with battles we have waged as well as the progress we make on painting our armies.  So long as things go according to plan our blog should be updated at least every Sunday with our weekly progress.

Reference...

Here is a current picture of my Warhammer literature and stuff.
It is nice to look at all on its own shelf instead of stacks on the carpet in my office!!

Information is power.

Prepare for war...

It is all done!!!!

I finally got my garage into a nice play space. I even broke out the play mat on the table and we are ready to get started. Now I need to know when. At least I can brush up on the rules so there is more play time!

Here it is...

*AFTER*

Lets get sweaty...

Time to work...

Well, I stopped by my local Half Price and found a couple more books to read.

Of course, they were nice and cheap.

The point of this post is that I have made time and will be getting work done on my garage. I took a week off from work and now it is time to get a few things done around here!!

So, time to get started on this mess...

Keeping the Faith...

It has been a LONG while since I did anything Warhammer related. Still have not done my garage to make play space, not done any of my models, still have not read up on the rules or even figured out how to get started.
It seemed like there is no more steam in this venture. But you know what, that is what life does. You have to deal with the important stuff and there is one thing that I learned...

You don't "find" time, You MAKE it!!!

So, I got up and got the new edition of White Dwarf and it looks pretty good. Gotta press on. We will play our game eventually.

Saturday, March 5, 2011

Just a little more...

Been awhile since my last post and so much has been going on. Progress has been slow on the painting and clearing my garage for play space. Things happen in real life so that puts a pause on things.
At least I can still look for the next good deal. Found a stack of goodies online. Someone quit playing and I started so this exchange was meant to be, and for cheap too!!!
Sorry for lack of detail but no time to get into that right now. Barely enough time to post.

I have a few already but this lot was worth the ones I don't have!

Finally home again...

Like Ethan said, we have been very busy and I finally got home yesterday. I am going to get right back to the painting and hopefully get a game going by this weekend. Of course, I need a place to do that do i will be rearranging my garage for some play space.
I will do before and after pics to show progress of that project. More to come on that.

Well, I was out and about looking for the next deal today.

Stopping by my local Half Price Books, I found a few more gems real cheap...

I didnt forget, here is the pic on the Warhammer fantasy starter set I got last week.
Brand spankin' new and so cheap too!!

Enjoy...

Been awhile.....

Well, as most people have probably noticed, it has been awhile since Joey or I have been able to update the blog.  Joey has been busy with work, that has kept him away for a bit, and I have been dealing with lots of wedding preparations.  However, this week we are planning to do a lot of catch up.  This Thursday we should be doing some painting, and posting the results.  With the weather warming up Joey will be cleaning out his garage and hopefully we will be making a little corner into our Warhammer haven.  We will then try to get a game in this weekend and post the results of that.  This should end up being a good week for posts, so stay tuned!

Different place...

I am out on a business trip and I happen to find another Half Price Books where I am at. Granted, I was excited to stop by later when I had the chance. Now, I had some free time and checked it out.
I found a couple of good ones and real cheap too!! Found the 7th edition WH fantasy rule book, even though I already have the 6th and current 8th, I have noticed some unique art and info in each book has on its own. Plus, it is a good read anyways. I also found a WH fantasy Chronicles 2004 book. I never seen one before but it has official and trial rules, plus mission scenarios and mini-games to try out. If they make these regularly, I wonder if there is something similar for 40K. There probably is but I have not seen it yet!

I wonder if there is more nearby...

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Just missed it...

I called home and found out that the Warhammer fantasy set I ordered finally got there. I got it real cheap online but it was worth the wait.
It is the Battle of Skull Pass starter set, one edition previous from the current one, but it was cheap and new and still unopened. Sweet!!

I will get pics on here once I get home!
Hey, I think there is a Half Price Books here...

Out of nowhere...

I had a great find. As I was searching through the inter-webs, I stumbled across this older set of Black Templars models. The box was dated 2000 and while I checked the GW website, I couldn't find anything on this BT squad. I took a chance and picked it up and I am glad I did. It came with 10 plastic and 3 metal models. What a great start for my BT army!!!

I cant wait to put these together...
