Finally home again...

Like Ethan said, we have been very busy and I finally got home yesterday. I am going to get right back to the painting and hopefully get a game going by this weekend. Of course, I need a place to do that do i will be rearranging my garage for some play space.
I will do before and after pics to show progress of that project. More to come on that.

Well, I was out and about looking for the next deal today.

Stopping by my local Half Price Books, I found a few more gems real cheap...

I didnt forget, here is the pic on the Warhammer fantasy starter set I got last week.
Brand spankin' new and so cheap too!!

Enjoy...

Been awhile.....

Well, as most people have probably noticed, it has been awhile since Joey or I have been able to update the blog.  Joey has been busy with work, that has kept him away for a bit, and I have been dealing with lots of wedding preparations.  However, this week we are planning to do a lot of catch up.  This Thursday we should be doing some painting, and posting the results.  With the weather warming up Joey will be cleaning out his garage and hopefully we will be making a little corner into our Warhammer haven.  We will then try to get a game in this weekend and post the results of that.  This should end up being a good week for posts, so stay tuned!

Different place...

I am out on a business trip and I happen to find another Half Price Books where I am at. Granted, I was excited to stop by later when I had the chance. Now, I had some free time and checked it out.
I found a couple of good ones and real cheap too!! Found the 7th edition WH fantasy rule book, even though I already have the 6th and current 8th, I have noticed some unique art and info in each book has on its own. Plus, it is a good read anyways. I also found a WH fantasy Chronicles 2004 book. I never seen one before but it has official and trial rules, plus mission scenarios and mini-games to try out. If they make these regularly, I wonder if there is something similar for 40K. There probably is but I have not seen it yet!

I wonder if there is more nearby...

Just missed it...

I called home and found out that the Warhammer fantasy set I ordered finally got there. I got it real cheap online but it was worth the wait.
It is the Battle of Skull Pass starter set, one edition previous from the current one, but it was cheap and new and still unopened. Sweet!!

I will get pics on here once I get home!
Hey, I think there is a Half Price Books here...

Out of nowhere...

I had a great find. As I was searching through the inter-webs, I stumbled across this older set of Black Templars models. The box was dated 2000 and while I checked the GW website, I couldn't find anything on this BT squad. I took a chance and picked it up and I am glad I did. It came with 10 plastic and 3 metal models. What a great start for my BT army!!!

I cant wait to put these together...

Supplies.....

Well, I have been looking all over the internet trying to find the best brushes to use for painting.  The Citadel ones, while are great to use, as Joey can atest to, are a bit expensive it seems?  However, I am one who believes that you must pay for quality, and when it comes to this hobby I wan't to make sure I get my moneys worth!

So, in my quest to find the best price and best brushes I cam across the following website:

www.aswexpress.com

This website was recommended on a Warhmmer 40k board I was reading, they have LOTS of paint supplies, for good prices, including some excellent looking brushes.  I would recommend others to check this out and hopefully it will help you save money and get quality supplies for your Warhammer 40k hobby.

So much to build....

Well, the starter set I ordered finally came in!  I can't believe how many pieces are in it!  While Joey and his wife were busy painting I was busy trying to put my armies together to get a good look at them.  I was able to get most of the Ork army completed.  I still have two more Ork Choppas to complete, but then the entire Ork army will be done.  I also completed the 5 space marines that came in the Assault on Black Reach starter paint set.

This week I should be completeing the rest of the Ork army as well as all of the Space Marines.  Peraps we will be able to get a game in?  The problem we have right now is that it is so much fun just building and painting and planning the battle fields that actually playing the game is on the back burner!  We will get to it though, and when we do we will post the outcome on here.

Much better...

My wife and I decided to have another go at the painting. We did so much better this time around. She decided to do one of the Warhammer fantasy dwarfs and I still did one of my Heroquest models. This time, the barbarian.

These turned out so much better and my wife really did awesome with the dwarf despite the questionable paint job it had on earlier from the previous owner.

All this taught us one thing, paint everything before assembly, makes it much easier to get to those hard to reach pieces, sometimes impossible if already glued together! Of course, mine was one whole piece.

Practice makes...

I finally got to start painting while Ethan got to put together his Black Reach set. He will post pics on that soon.
Well, I first put primer on the models with black spray paint. I am still working on my technique. Will practice more on that later. Didn't take pics on that... drat, should of.

I got my painting done and even my wonderful Wife wanted to paint one so I gave her the Dwarf to do. It turned out really good. I really like the detail on the Ax and the belt buckle.

Awesome job!

Mine came out good. The zombie could use more work, I am more about the details but it is just practice and we are learning real quick.

Not too bad!

All those paints I got came in real handy.

It's finally here...

Ethan and I ordered some necessities! He got the Black Reach starter and Paint sets and I got the current rulebooks for Fantasy and 40K. It finally got to the house.

Lets get this going!

The motherload...

There is a reason to like today.

In my search for more Warhammer swag, I came across a Citadel case. I wanted one so I could store my paints and Macragge models as i work on them. Come to find out, the case came with a few extras! There is so much to list, you will have to see the photo to see. Paints, brushes, files, glues, WH elves and dwarfs still on the sprue, metal elves, extra clippers, extra books. you get the idea. Man, I even got it all cheap. Now I am not one for used paints, but that small detail is overlooked for this awesome find.

There is nothing stopping me from starting my painting now!!!

...and all I wanted was a case!

Run to the store...

I wanted to get the last color so I will have every paint I need to get started for what i actually have. While I was at the "nerd" store as my wife would call it, to get this paint, I found a few other helpful items. A vise to hold my models so my grubby hands wont get in the way, and a water pot. You might ask, why not use a cup? Well, this pot has groves to hold the different brush sizes into the water without it damaging the bristles.

Five dollars well spent? We will see.

More reading...

I found a couple of back issues. Well, all of the White Dwarf issues of 2010. I already had Dec 2010, but I was not going to let that stop me from getting this great deal.

Plus I found a Warhammer Army book for Tomb Kings. It seemed interesting, so i picked it up.

Looks like I have some reading to do!

It takes time....

Well, I continue to practice my painting skills, and as you will be able to tell I need a lot more practice!  However, this is why we practice on hero quest models and not our army models.  In time my painting skills will improve, and when I get some better brushes that should help as well.  Right now I am just using the standard practice brush, but I can already tell where different sized brushes would come in handy.

It's amazing how time consuming such a small crappy paint job can take!  I am can't wait till I am actually good enough to start painting my own armies.  Of course I need for my starter kit and starter paint it to arrive, but that should be on wednesday.

On a side note, I am sure most people have seen the mega paint set that Games Workshop puts out.  While this set has a truly amazing assortment of paints, and the price that you are paying per paint is an excellent deal, I would not recommend purchasing it.  As Joey and I have discussed, quite a few of the paints you won't ever even use.  I believe Joey has roughly 23 different paints right now, a few doubles, but he only needs a couple more before he has all the necessary paints to for his entire armies, which includes Space Marines, Necros AND Tyranids.   The mega  paint set comes with 73 different paints, why pay for paints you wont even use, even if you are paying less for bulk?

All together...

Well, I finally pieced together my starter set. All those Tyranids are done. Much more involved than the Marines, but just as fun.
Ethan was still working on his painting skills, we will see when he posts his pics. Next time, I will start my practice paint sessions while he puts together his set. I cant wait to start painting.

Here are the rest of them...

... and yes, I know about that one!!!

Whoa, almost forgot...

I just remembered that I got this Vampire Counts codex real cheap last weekend(hooray Half Price). My wife actually told me that she enjoyed admiring the detail on the armies and is excited to try herself. In fact, every craft place we go, she finds different things we could use for the terrain. Even in the pet store, we looked at all the models one would use in fish tanks. what a great idea!!

Anyway, here is the pic of the codex...

Like I said...

Welcome believers!
As I stated, I will post a new pic of some of the items I got the other day. I found some more paints, a small paint set with marines, and a citadel battlemat. Some of you WH veterans might say "Why waste your money on a battlemat?" and I say, I agree. I could make one or use just any old bed sheet, but I have none. Plus, my wife wont let me use our good ones so I just got a mat and now I never have to worry. Took one for the team!

Brush, brush, brush...

What luck!!!! I found a complete set of the citadel brushes dirt cheap. All new, never used. I have a couple of OK brushes on the way but when I get my technique down, I have proper brushes to use.

I cant wait!!!

Had some time...

I finally had some time to post today. Been real busy and trying to keep up. Did some research by going to the local craft stores and doing price comparisons. So much to track, how much for this much paint, different brushes, tools, etc.. I went to the local Alien Worlds and picked up some paint I know I will need. Not too bad with my discount. They been very helpful.
I picked up some chaos black undercoat and a couple of others.

Cant wait to try them.

Also, I got a "How to..." in the mail real cheap. Thumbing through, it has lots of great tips and tricks on how to paint. I am definitely going to apply what I learn from this book.

In the mail....

Well, my Assault on Black Reach is in the mail and hopefully should be here this week.  I also ordered a paint set specifically for Assault on Black Reach, so I should have all the colors needed to paint the marines.  We have been looking into other paint alternatives, paints that won't cost quite as much as Game Worshops paints, and from reading on the internet there seems to be quite a few people who do this as well.  This can be a very expensive hobby, so Joey and I are looking to save wherever we can.  If anyone has any suggestions on good quality brushes please let us know!
