Painting....

Wow, can't believe how much fun it was doing so little!  This is going to be a truly great adventure Joey and I are embarking on.

As Joey indicated, I practiced painting on a Heroquest model.  I know what your thinking 'That isnt Warhammer 40k!', but trust me, it was very similar in structure and I want to have a couple practice models before I begin painting my Black Reach army I should be getting soon.  I can't believe how time consuming painting is going to be.  I spent a good 30 minutes just putting on a black undercoat.  However, while visiting a local Alien Worlds we discovered that there is a way to spray paint an undercoat on, which should save tons of time.

Next weekend there should be more updates, and hopefully a game will have been played.  As usual all this depend on what life throws at Joey and me this week!

Finally started...

Tonight was something. Ethan and I actually got to sit down and start putting together the models.

Well, he was practicing how to paint on one of my Heroquest models. It came out pretty good for a first start.

I was getting my starter set put together. I did the Space Marines first and it turned out pretty well.

Here is the first figurine...

Here are all the Space Marines done with the wreckage. My wonderful wife took this picture. It was really good, looks like they are ready to defend against the hive!

I was going to start on the Tyranid models, but it was getting late and only did just one. More to come...

Are we playing...

As you all read through these posts, you may wonder, there is lots of talk of getting started but nothing of actually doing it. It seems frustrating but, as Ethan and I have full time jobs and many other family obligations, finding time is rather daunting.
I hope that once we stop "collecting" and finally get "started", it would be worth the wait. At least I think so.
Ethan told me that he purchased the starter set, Assault on Black Reach. It is in the mail so we hope to check that out soon. Pics anyone?
Anyways, now time to showcase my latest finds. The current White Dwarf magazine (Feb 2011), a box set of Necron warriors, and a Citadel Palette.

...and the collection gets a little bigger!!

Plus one to the stack...

As I mentioned before, I found a Black Templars codex. It finally came in the mail today. Note that excitement, when you open your mail box and there is a package inside. It was like Christmas morning. Yay!

New setting, same excitement!

Well, as Joey mentioned, we will be switching over to Warhammer Fantasy instead of 40k.  Now, Joey and I will still be building a 40k army, it just may take some more time due to the wives/fiance preferring the Warhammer Fantasy setting.  With both of them on board on our Warhammer club has turned into a 5 person group.

In any case, we are still extremely excited about the fantasy setting, especially some of the scenery that we will be building and putting together!  I also can't wait to learn more on the dwarfs and what their strengths, weaknesses and history is!  I have always played dwarf characters in any game that allows it, so this is really exciting for me!  I believe Ashley (fiance), will be playing the Dark Elfs.  She likes Elfs and loves how the Dark Elfs are a matriarchal society.

Not the same one...

I was surprised that my wonderful wife was into the Warhammer venture Ethan and I were getting into. However, she is more inclined to Warhammer Fantasy, not 40K. Not to fear. Since they are pretty much the same game, just have slight rule differences between units, I can do both. We were at out local game hobby store for quite a while discussing different options and how to go about getting her on board Warhammer and getting a fantasy starter set.
Even though now I have to split the efforts between two separate games instead of focusing all the resources to one, it is good that she is on board. Plus I was curious about the Fantasy aspect of it. Who knows, I might like it more than 40K... we shall see. Just more stuff to buy now.

I got her this nice 6th edition Warhammer rulebook for her to thumb through real cheap(thanks Half Price!). She is still deciding on which army to start with.

White Dwarf what...

While I was pondering my next move at the game hobby store, I came across this magazine, White Dwarf. I remember someone mentioned it to me when I was asking around about 40K but they made it sound like the magazine was not published anymore. Just bad hearing on my part I guess.
I flipped through it and it had lots of 40K info, tips, all kinds of game results and strategies. Even though it included Warhammer Fantasy and Lord of the Rings, all the tactics and methods are the same. Sweet. I can apply these and learn of new things as the magazines come out!! And... I liked it.
Well, I picked up January's issue as well as last December's. It was cheap, so why not!

Splash of color...

I know it would be a while before I got a paint set but I move some monies around and since I forgot to carry the one when I paid the bills and what not, I found that I actually had more money than I calculated. Whew!!! Boy that would have sucked if it was the other way around. I know that has happen before many years ago. But I digress...
Since I had a little extra coin in my pocket, I made a trek to the local game hobby store and picked up a fantastic starter paint set.
This is so far, the only new thing I actually bought. But of course, no one wants used paints!

Great support...

I posted on my Facebook that I was taking the plunge into Warhammer 40K. I expected the taunting or the crazy talk. But I was pleasantly surprised on all the advice and support I received from my friends!! Yeah, I guess doing this might make me a little geeky, but I have a huge support base from different parts of everywhere to go to.

Thanks everyone and I will definitely put my best effort into it.
I am real excited to get started because I shall smite all enemies of the Imperium!

Gotta slow down...

I am really excited for all the new stuff I am learning about this cool game. Also, buying up all the things to get started is really adding up. Not too bad since I am getting it cheap but, still adding up.
My lovely wife wanted a pair of really nice and expensive roller skates. She doesn't ask for much but, who am I to say no to her when she wants a little something.
Here they are, I know it is not 40K related but this will put a temporary pause on my future 40K purchases. Since I was planning on getting paints and other accessories to embellish my armies, it will wait a little bit!!

Not to worry, I found a Black Templars codex. Not as cheap as I wanted but still cheaper than the stores!!! It is in the mail.

So many marines...

Went to Half Price today. I got all these books so cheap, it should be illegal!! I love that place. I should have gotten more, but I wanted to pace myself. I didn't find any Ork books for Trevor. I am very excited he is going to join the War!
You might notice I have an extra Space Wolves codex. Well, we look out for each other and if someone finds something the other is looking for, they get it. Ethan wanted the book and I am returning the favor for the newer Tyranid book he got for me.

I am still looking for a Black Templars codex! ;)

Library continues to grow....

Went to Half Price Books today to get a new Codex for Space Marines since I have decided that is the army I will be starting to develop first.  Luckily they had one, and for only $5.98!

So much to read and learn, but I am looking forward to mastering it all.  Hopefully in the next week or so Joey, Trevor and I will have played a few battles and we can post some pictures and battle reports.

Addition to the club....

Well, as it stands it looks like my brother Trevor will for sure be joining us in our adventures into Warhammer 40k.  Once I get the Assault on Black Reach starter kit I will be giving him use of the Ork army, knowing his style of play I think he will enjoy playing as the Orks quite a bit.

Joey was also able to find yet another place where they play Warhammer 40k around where he lives.  They have a casual game night and I hope that once we have learned the rules and built our armies up a bit we can go and participate there.

Falling behind....

Well, looks like Joey has taken the first jump into Warhammer 40k and is leaving me behind!  I will need to get Assault on Black Reach quickly so that I don't fall too far behind.  Just need to find a great deal online first.

Looks like one of my brothers might be getting involved as well, so hopefully we can get some fun games going.

Also, as Joey mentioned earlier, I think I have come up with a great campaign idea already.  However, we first need to learn all the rules of the game, practice and build our armies before we try creating a whole campaign.  Once we have progressed a bit and I have flushed out some rules and story, then I will post my idea and hopefully get some feedback.

Study, study, study...

Ethan and I were talking, I think he should get the other starter set, Black Reach. He will have something for his own as well as my set for my own. We can practice more with more. I have Space Marines and Tyranids. He would get Space Marines and Orks. Something different. I hope we can get others on board. It will be fun!

Well, time to hit the books. I got a game to learn!

So excited....

I manage to get my hands on a new starter set. It is the Battle of Macragge. Well, not brand new since it is a 4th edition, but new in the fact it has never been used. I am so excited, I cant wait to get started.
My friend Ethan just sent me an awesome plan to do a campaign. Of course it will be started once we get the hang of the rules but it looks like we have some planning to do. I will let him decide to post the plans if he wants. It is his idea!

Time to learn it and get some colors. I am thinking I might be the Black Templar.

Oh boy, it is on now!!!

Tons to read....

While these books may be from the last generation, there is still a wealth of knowledge to be learned for those of us just starting out.  Not to mention with the great deal we got on them at Half Price Books, it is by far the most economical route to begin your Warhammer 40k career!

Found something...

As I was going through the inter-webs, I came across this good site filled with 40K info. Here is the link...

It was a little challenging navigating through the site at first, but it has a wealth of info. That is where I found out that there is a 4th edition starter set, Battle for Macragge.

I was snooping through the deals and what-not, and I found there are some new ones still around. I am going to try to nab one of these, and if it all works out play-wise, I might also get the Assault on Black Reach set or just buy a battleforce or two. I mean by then, I might not need a second starter set. ;)

Something to get me started...

I went to my local Half Price Book Store the other day and found some light reading to get me started. I told Ethan about it and later we went to all four locations and picked up some more good books. Here are the ones I got, and dirt cheap too!

Time for it all...

Well, I am finally on the site. My buddy Ethan and I will figure out all rules and hopefully we wont be in over our heads. Everyone I talked to enjoyed it and had fun. It just needs time and of course, cash! Let's get this party started!

So it begins....

I have started this blog to help keep track of the adventures that my friend Joey and I will be having while learning the wonderful, and complicated game of Warhammer 40k.  This is going to be a long journey filled with happy moments, tears and frustration!

On this blog we will publish many pictures of our developing armies and battle fields we are going to be creating.  We will post Battle Reports and strategies we used so that as time goes on we can see how we have hopefully developed from completely useless wanna-be Warhammer 40k nerds into conquering Warhammer 40k commanders.
